6 myths about becoming a graphic design student @ Strohacker Design School

Eshé Brown
Graphic Designer, Pegasus, Brighton, UK.

#1. You need a qualification to apply.

You don’t need to have a qualification, you just need to have passion, drive and dedication to the time it takes to work on the projects.

#2. You need to be able to draw.

Although it would be beneficial to be able to draw, all you really need is to be able to communicate your idea by mark making on paper.

#3. You need to be good at photoshop and computer software.

You don’t need to be good at photoshop or computer software as you will learn all you need to know on the course.

#4. You think that you are not creative.

We believe that everyone is creative, it’s just been suppressed along the way. Our job is to help you tap into that dormant creativity.

#5. The course is expensive!

It’s an investment in your education that can get you a return within month’s rather than years, as on other courses.

#6. Can you really get a job in graphic design after 3 months of training?

Yes, we have had some very successful results, with students gaining employment at local, national and international companies, also at higher salary levels than the average for graphic designer graduates.

Eshé Brown went from working in PR to securing a position in her dream job as a graphic designer at one of Brighton’s most respected agencies, in just 5 months!

“I didn’t expect to learn so much in just 3 months. It’s been an incredible experience meeting all the patrons and learning from their years in the industry – that’s certainly been the highlight of the course for me. I loved the apparel and packaging project – seeing your design on an object really brings the work to life and you feel as though you’re working in a real studio environment. Doing the course has completely changed my life and I am so much happier now that I’ve changed my career. I am doing a role much better suited to my strengths and I wake up every day and I look forward to going to work.”

Where are you now?

After only 2 interviews, I was offered the job that I wanted… Junior Graphic Designer at Pegasus in Brighton, UK, on a starting salary of £30,000, way above the average for this type of position.

In under, 1 year I have now been promoted to Graphic Designer with a substantial pay rise.
